Glam Bag Review

I did a post in November about how popular subscription services are becoming and wondering if they were good Christmas gift ideas. I decided to try out a few more, including Glam Bag by Ipsy. It’s a $10/month subscription for beauty products that comes in a little cosmetic bag. This is actually my second Glam Bag but I forgot to take photos of the December bag. The highlight of that one was a black Urban Decay eyeliner.ย  I’m really pleased with the January bag. ๐Ÿ™‚

Contents: London Soho NY crease brush, Big Sexy Hair mini-hairspray, Nailtini red nail polish, Pacifica body butter in Tuscan Blood Orange scent, and Josie Maran argan oil.

First up, the crease brush. I have a crease brush and I use it to blend shadows but it doesn’t have quite this shape so I’m eager to try this one out.

Next, the Nailtini polish and Josie Maran argan oil. This post was really about my future career as a hand model.

The argan oil box says you can use it as (1) daily moisturizer on your face (2) as a hair treatment for split ends (3) body moisturizer (4) nail treatment for your cuticles or (5) bath oil. That’s quite a variety of uses! I don’t see myself using oil as a moisturizer, but I’m curious to try it on my hair. I have a cuticle oil from JulepMaven (more on that subscription in another post!) and I do use it so I would try this brand for my cuticles, too. I’ve never taken a bath in our current apartment to try this in the bath but maybe this will be my excuse to try ๐Ÿ˜‰

The shade of the Nailtini polish is not what I have on, by the way. I like this shade though–a big, bold red is fun from time to time.

I don’t wear hairspray often, but mini hairsprays are hard to find so I’m happy to have this Big Sexy Hair one for my travel bag. The Tuscan blood orange body butter smells amazing. Plus, the bag is cute!

I’ll keep you posted as I use these products to see if they were worth it. I feel like I definitely got my $10 worth from this month’s glam bag. Even if the quality of the nail polish isn’t the best or I don’t find a lot of uses for the argan oil, the brush, hair spray and moisturizer would easily be $20 purchased alone.

I’ve heard a lot of disappointment with Birchbox so if you’re thinking about cancelling Birchbox or you’d like to add some new beauty products to your routine, consider Ipsy! The only down side so far is that I don’t think you can skip the month; you have to cancel your subscription. I haven’t wanted to skip Glam Bag yet, but the other subscriptions I’ve tried all allow you to skip a month, which has come in handy. I also decided to try PV Body (work out gear) and JulepMaven (nail polish) subscriptions, and I placed an order through Jewel Mint. Stay tuned for future reviews on those brands!

Workin’ It Wednesday: The Grey Blazer + A Stella & Dot Surprise!

For my second edition of Workin’ It Wednesday, I went with eyelet, leopard, and polka dots. I’ve had this grey blazer for a while but I find lighter colored blazers trickier to style. I think the grey looks great with purple or navy. What do you think?

Grey & Sequins

IMG_7613-crop

What’s better with sequins than more sequins? I snapped up these sequined pumps on clearance at Target recently and couldn’t wait to try them out. Pairing them with a sequined bow cardigan seemed appropriate. Plus, a pop of pink with my clutch and some fun jewelry, of course!

Speaking of jewelry, I’m excited to announce I signed up as an independent stylist with my favorite jewelry line, Stella & Dot! ๐Ÿ™‚ I literally can’t get enough of their jewels, and after falling in love with basically everything in the new spring line, I decided the time was right.

For more exciting news on the Stella & Dot front, stay tuned for tomorrow’s post! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Lace & Spikes

One thing I love almost as much as mixing colors is mixing feminine and edgy pieces. Enter this lace dress and spiked booties!ย  I saw these Sole Society shoes and thought they were so cool and not my typical style. Every now and then it’s fun to branch out from the norm.

I’ve been thinking of making the dress a DIY project and evening out the hem. The asymmetrical hem worked well with my rocker-chic look, but I could easily take this dress to a party or work with an even hem. I’ll keep you posted ๐Ÿ™‚

New Series! Workin’ It Wednesday: A Nautical Approach

IMG_7572-color

Anything goes for a regular day at my office, but my job often requires me to dress business or business casual. I got great feedback from my recent post about making business attire not so boring, so I’ve decided to make a regular column on incorporating color, patterns, textures, and jewelry into a business professional wardrobe. I think these outfits can get you through most work scenarios, but would also work well for brunch with family, wedding/baby showers, church, or any other day when you want to step it up a notch. Look forward to frequent “Workin’ It Wednesday” features! ๐Ÿ™‚

IMG_7549-crop2

The navy striped top and azure blue blazer gave this look a nautical feel, but the tweed and nude pumps anchored it (pun intended!). I splashed in color with my pink bag and orange bracelet. You could make this more neutral with a brown or black bag, a solid-colored blouse, or pearls. Or if you wanted to make it bolder, you could add a leopard print shoe and more bracelets! Depending on where I was going or who I was going to meet, I would make those types of adjustments. But the underlying concept–tweed, stripes, and a colorful blazer–is just as work appropriate as a black pencil skirt and button down shirt, but a lot more fun ๐Ÿ™‚

I also threw on this scarf to play up the pink and orange since it was quite chilly this morning!

Back to Business

Usually anything goes at my office, but I had to dress particularly business-like this day. I hate that because it feels like it stifles my creativity. There’s only so much color and oversized jewelry you can have on and still be business-appropriate. But, business doesn’t have to mean boring! Classic colors like navy, camel and red anchor the outfit, but leopard and pleats keep it fun.

Speaking of leopard, remember when I did this post about finding the perfect leopard pump? I never ended up purchasing a pair, but Santa chose this pair and I’m very happy with them ๐Ÿ™‚

Hearts on Hearts

Hi friends ๐Ÿ™‚ Sorry I’ve been slacking on posts this week! I was without my darling husband/photographer for a week and now he’s back (yay!) but we’re both playing catch up from wonderful, long Christmas vacations. Hopefully I can get back to my every-other-day schedule ASAP.

I am not usually a fan of graphic tees or novelty sweaters, but I had been eyeing this J. Crew heart sweater and similar options for a while. Thankfully Santa took note! Since you all know my penchant for print mixing, I paired it with more hearts!

I was wearing dark green old J. Crew moccasins but I hated all the full length photos so sorry, you don’t get to see those ๐Ÿ™‚

Sunday Shoe Crushes

There are two types of shoes I’m hoping to add to my wardrobe this year– a heeled ballet flat, and a pair (flat or heel) with neon accents. Never mind the fact that I’ve added several pairs of shoes to my closet in the recent past, I just can’t stay away from shoes. Loveeee shoes ๐Ÿ™‚ ย Here are some pairs I have my eye on. I’m partial to the the ankle strap options with neon trim and theย nude and silver ballet flats.

What do you think? Any shoe trends you’re hoping to try in 2013?

As a side note, if anyone could explain to me why the second image has a border around it but the first image doesn’t even though I prepared them the same way, that’d be great ๐Ÿ™‚ I tried, and failed, to solve this mystery.
