Back to Business

Usually anything goes at my office, but I had to dress particularly business-like this day. I hate that because it feels like it stifles my creativity. There’s only so much color and oversized jewelry you can have on and still be business-appropriate. But, business doesn’t have to mean boring! Classic colors like navy, camel and red anchor the outfit, but leopard and pleats keep it fun.

Speaking of leopard, remember when I did this post about finding the perfect leopard pump? I never ended up purchasing a pair, but Santa chose this pair and I’m very happy with them 🙂

A Look Back at 2012

I only started Christine In Color in October, but it seems like so much has happened already! I’m looking forward to sharing outfits with you in 2013! Here’s a look back at some of my favorite looks of 2012. Thank you for reading!

End of Year Recap

The Blue Blazer

I grabbed this school boy blazer over the fall, and then couldn’t figure out what to wear it with. (You know my rule of 3). I thought about taking it back, then I realized it was final sale (oops). I wore it once with a khaki suit dress and it looked nice, but I knew I could do better. As it turns out, I can’t. But Kendi Everyday can! I don’t usually see looks on other bloggers that I want to exactly duplicate, but when I saw her post last week in a look-alike blazer, I thought, I have to steal that! Thanks, Kendi 🙂

As a side note, something about having a blue blazer makes me think of that episode of Friends where Joey works as a docent at the museum and tries to save Ross a seat at his table at lunch and Ross shuts him down because people in white coats sit together and people with blue blazers sit together. Anyone else? Just me? Cool.

Lacey Blues

I had been looking for a way to incorporate my turquoise bubble necklace into fall/winter, and I’m really pleased with how this color blocking look turned out. BTW, I hope people aren’t over bubble necklaces yet because I really like mine 🙂  I also love this new photo spot my husband and I stumbled upon at our apartment complex. Great morning light! It made things a lot easier when we were trying to snap some photos before work!

Layer Under

I regularly think about what I can add on top of my outfit–a cardigan, jacket, scarf, etc. But layering underneath is just as interesting, and even better because it’s unexpected. This dress looks cute on it’s own, but there’s so much more visual interest with the chambray underneath plus the vest on top. So the next time you’re getting dressed, think about what you could layer under, not just over 😉

A Checkered Present

Happy Monday, all! I’m really enjoying layering weather. This button down or sweater alone would have been a fine outfit, but kind of boring. When you combine them, you suddenly get an interesting color combination. If it had been a little cooler, I would have gone a step further with a blazer. Each layer you add makes the look more polished. I opted for a rose gold necklace and some bracelets to step up my cozy casual weekend attire.

Don’t forget today is the LAST DAY to enter the Essie giveaway from Sunday’s post! Winner will be announced tomorrow!

Tartan + Tweed

This might be my new favorite outfit. I wish I could wear it every day, but I think people would notice. It combines so many things I love–classic, tailored shapes with bold jewelry and fancy shoes 🙂

If you’re new to mixing prints and you’re not sure how to get your feet wet, start with classics like tartan, tweed, leather, lace, denim, etc. Leave the neon stripes with busy florals for your second try 😉

Conveniently the weather has turned colder (wasn’t I just complaining it was 80?) so I could break out my Target tartan blazer. I love the detailing of the orange underside of the collar and the striped lining (which you can’t see because of my shirt). I’ll be bringing this blazer back for a “how to wear 3 ways” series in the future! I haven’t forgotten about my pink shoes from my first post. Those will be returning for their second installment shortly.

Speaking of Target, stay tuned for my next post–great holidays finds from that wonderful store!
