Lace & Spikes

One thing I love almost as much as mixing colors is mixing feminine and edgy pieces. Enter this lace dress and spiked booties!  I saw these Sole Society shoes and thought they were so cool and not my typical style. Every now and then it’s fun to branch out from the norm.

I’ve been thinking of making the dress a DIY project and evening out the hem. The asymmetrical hem worked well with my rocker-chic look, but I could easily take this dress to a party or work with an even hem. I’ll keep you posted 🙂

A Look Back at 2012

I only started Christine In Color in October, but it seems like so much has happened already! I’m looking forward to sharing outfits with you in 2013! Here’s a look back at some of my favorite looks of 2012. Thank you for reading!

End of Year Recap

Blue & Grey

It’s been a cold and rainy few weeks which was making me think of blues and greys. But those shades can be cheery too. It’s hard not to feel upbeat in a loud print like this J. Crew liberty shirt. And I loveee a cardigan with pockets 🙂

Red, Green & Sequins

I’m embracing red and green in today’s post, with my sequin sweatshirt (last seen here) to add additional holiday flair. I think it works since the blazer is kind of orange and the bag is really bright–not your traditional holiday red and green shades. Or maybe it doesn’t work at all. Who cares, it’s Christmas!

Fall Neon

It’s been feeling very summery here–a little too summery, actually. I know I shouldn’t complaint about a warm fall, but I’m eager to break into my scarves and boots! I opted for neons on this beautiful day. Although you may associate bright colors with spring and summer, you can wear neons all year round. In fact, if it’s snowing in your neighborhood, adding some neon will surely lighten your mood 🙂

Sunday Sparkle

Now that Halloween is over, I am officially ready for the holidays. While it doesn’t need to be the holidays to add some sparkle to your outfit, there is something about this time of year that begs for sparkle. Retailers get it too; there are sequins and bows everywhere I look. This sequin sweatshirt caught my eye at H&M recently. It’s shimmery and comfortable, and definitely gets me in the holiday spirit!

I also decided to add some sparkle to my nails. The gold glitter + teal combination is really fun for fall and into the holiday season. Like this combo? Enter my first GIVEAWAY to win these two Essie nail polishes!! See the entry rules below.

Peplum and Chains

Have you tried on a top or dress with a peplum? I wasn’t sold on them until I found this fun pink one at Forever 21. It made me feel instantly fun. Do you have any clothing with that immediate effect? I think the key for me is layering them with fitted skirts that accentuate my waist. If I put this top on with jeans it makes my torso look super short, which isn’t flattering. Not all peplums are created equal!

In addition to mixing colors and prints, I love playing with different styles in the same outfit. The pencil skirt is timeless, the top is flirty and feminine, and the jewelry is edgy. Sometimes I find the things that don’t seem to go together actually go together the best!

Happy Thursday!
