Workin’ It Wednesday: The Grey Blazer + A Stella & Dot Surprise!

For my second edition of Workin’ It Wednesday, I went with eyelet, leopard, and polka dots. I’ve had this grey blazer for a while but I find lighter colored blazers trickier to style. I think the grey looks great with purple or navy. What do you think?

Sunday Shoe Crushes

There are two types of shoes I’m hoping to add to my wardrobe this year– a heeled ballet flat, and a pair (flat or heel) with neon accents. Never mind the fact that I’ve added several pairs of shoes to my closet in the recent past, I just can’t stay away from shoes. Loveeee shoes 🙂  Here are some pairs I have my eye on. I’m partial to the the ankle strap options with neon trim and the nude and silver ballet flats.

What do you think? Any shoe trends you’re hoping to try in 2013?

As a side note, if anyone could explain to me why the second image has a border around it but the first image doesn’t even though I prepared them the same way, that’d be great 🙂 I tried, and failed, to solve this mystery.

A Look Back at 2012

I only started Christine In Color in October, but it seems like so much has happened already! I’m looking forward to sharing outfits with you in 2013! Here’s a look back at some of my favorite looks of 2012. Thank you for reading!

End of Year Recap

Houndstooth and Mustard

We snapped these shots shortly before leaving town for the holidays and I didn’t get around to doing a post before we left. I really like houndstooth for fall and winter, but it’s one of the toughest prints to wear (in my opinion). I love it with a warm neutral tone like this gold skirt. There are also shades of maroon and olive in the print that I could play with, as I did with my burgundy shoes!

You’ll see this mustard pencil skirt again soon! I had it with me over my holiday vacation and wore it a couple of times. It’s very versatile, believe it or not! 🙂

Blue & Grey

It’s been a cold and rainy few weeks which was making me think of blues and greys. But those shades can be cheery too. It’s hard not to feel upbeat in a loud print like this J. Crew liberty shirt. And I loveee a cardigan with pockets 🙂

Hello, Pink Shoes!

Welcome to Christine In Color!

I’m Christine, and I love colorful, affordable fashion. I previously worked in the retail industry and one comment I frequently heard from customers was that they didn’t know how to wear color. I love mixing colors and patterns, and I am here to show you how to do it too!

Here are some features you can expect from my blog:

  1. How to wear an item 3 ways–I’ll show you how to take seemingly tricky wardrobe pieces and make 3 unique outfits with them
  2. Great finds at great prices–Spotlights on affordable, fun items I have come across
  3. Sale alerts
  4. My 2 Cents–My advice and tips on everything from what to buy to build a new wardrobe, how to identify your style, and how I shop on a budget

I’m sure I will expand the features of Christine In Color as time goes on and I would love your feedback on what you like or would want to read.

In my first post, I’m wearing my favorite colors: navy and hot pink. Navy is clean and classic, but pink is fun and feminine. The combination is perfection! I love it so much, I used it as my wedding colors 🙂

I’m kicking off my “how to wear an item 3 ways” feature with my wonderful, pink heels. I fell in love with these as soon as I saw them. When I showed a friend, her response was, “yeah, those are beautiful… but what are you going to wear them with?” Hot pink heels are admittedly not every day shoes. And while it’s okay to have certain items that you don’t wear very often (i.e. wedding/party dresses or accessories), in general, you shouldn’t have something that you don’t know what to wear it with, or that you only have one outfit to wear it with.

To combat this problem, when I buy something that I’m not sure how I’m going to style, I find 3 outfits I already own to wear the item with. If I can’t, I don’t get to keep the item. Look for outfit number 2 with these beauties in a few weeks!
