Back to Business

Usually anything goes at my office, but I had to dress particularly business-like this day. I hate that because it feels like it stifles my creativity. There’s only so much color and oversized jewelry you can have on and still be business-appropriate. But, business doesn’t have to mean boring! Classic colors like navy, camel and red anchor the outfit, but leopard and pleats keep it fun.

Speaking of leopard, remember when I did this post about finding the perfect leopard pump? I never ended up purchasing a pair, but Santa chose this pair and I’m very happy with them 🙂

Dress: Calvin Klein via TJ Maxx (old) // Blazer: J. Crew Factory // Heels: Ann Taylor // Bag: Kate Spade (similar) // Belt: Anthropologie (old) // Necklace: Francesca’s (old, similar) // Bow Bracelet: J. Crew (old, similar) // Leopard Bracelet: J. Crew

This photo shoot dissolved into spinning… This dress is so fun! 🙂

Hearts on Hearts

Hi friends 🙂 Sorry I’ve been slacking on posts this week! I was without my darling husband/photographer for a week and now he’s back (yay!) but we’re both playing catch up from wonderful, long Christmas vacations. Hopefully I can get back to my every-other-day schedule ASAP.

I am not usually a fan of graphic tees or novelty sweaters, but I had been eyeing this J. Crew heart sweater and similar options for a while. Thankfully Santa took note! Since you all know my penchant for print mixing, I paired it with more hearts!

Sweater: J. Crew // Blouse: Forever 21 (old, similar, last seen here) // Jeans: Lucky (a recent steal at Nordstrom Rack) // Necklace: Ell & Emm (Audrey necklace–currently sold out, but she restocks periodically so check back!) // Bracelets: Stella & Dot 1, 2, 3 // Bag: Kate Spade (similar)

I was wearing dark green old J. Crew moccasins but I hated all the full length photos so sorry, you don’t get to see those 🙂

Sunday Shoe Crushes

There are two types of shoes I’m hoping to add to my wardrobe this year– a heeled ballet flat, and a pair (flat or heel) with neon accents. Never mind the fact that I’ve added several pairs of shoes to my closet in the recent past, I just can’t stay away from shoes. Loveeee shoes 🙂  Here are some pairs I have my eye on. I’m partial to the the ankle strap options with neon trim and the nude and silver ballet flats.

What do you think? Any shoe trends you’re hoping to try in 2013?

As a side note, if anyone could explain to me why the second image has a border around it but the first image doesn’t even though I prepared them the same way, that’d be great 🙂 I tried, and failed, to solve this mystery.

Christmas Eve Outfit

I posted about my Christmas Day outfit here, but somehow I skipped my Christmas Eve ensemble! I packed pretty lightly for a 10-day vacation so I had to bring pieces that could be mixed and matched. This gold pencil skirt has become a go-to for me (last seen here). How did you dress for the holidays?

What You Should Be Doing This Year

Back to work and back to reality today. Sigh. I had a really nice vacation, including a bit of a break from blogging, and now I’m excited to start blogging in 2013!

I don’t really do New Year’s resolutions, but here are some things I’m going to try to do in the next month to get my 2013 on the right track. None of these goals are really tied to the New Year, but there’s no better time than the present to check these tasks off your to-do list! What about you? Are you making any resolutions?

1. Change your passwords — No one likes this chore, but it’s easy to get lazy with what passwords you use. I definitely do. You might think harder about your email or bank account password, but store websites or even facebook are important too. Even if you don’t store credit card numbers, an identity theft could get pretty far with your email and mailing address so it’s important to protect yourself everywhere with good passwords.

2. Back up your computer — We all know it’s a good idea to do this from time to time. Think of how bummed you’d be if you lost photos and documents you’ve accumulated since your last back up! Get an external hard drive, burn onto CDs, or upload to dropbox or another website.

3. Update your resume — Even if you’re not thinking of looking for a new job any time soon, resumes can be very time-consuming to put together if you have to think back on years worth of activities. When did you start volunteering with that non-profit? If you can’t even remember now, think of how hard it’ll be to remember down the road! Do yourself a favor and make periodic updates.

4. Clean your closet — It isn’t time for “spring cleaning” yet, but I think this is a perfect time to purge. Santa was so good to me this year, and while I’m excited to share some of my new acquisitions with you in upcoming posts, I have to admit post-Christmas leaves me feeling a bit empty. I have so much stuff in my closet that I don’t need or wear. Why wait until the seasons change? I’m currently trying to thin out my closet to make room for the new, and to sell or donate the old to benefit someone else.

Those are just a few of the things I’m trying to remember to do in the next month to get my 2013 off on the right foot. Feel free to share other things I should be doing while I’m on a roll! 🙂

Cheers to a happy and healthy New Year!

A Look Back at 2012

I only started Christine In Color in October, but it seems like so much has happened already! I’m looking forward to sharing outfits with you in 2013! Here’s a look back at some of my favorite looks of 2012. Thank you for reading!

End of Year Recap

Houndstooth and Mustard

We snapped these shots shortly before leaving town for the holidays and I didn’t get around to doing a post before we left. I really like houndstooth for fall and winter, but it’s one of the toughest prints to wear (in my opinion). I love it with a warm neutral tone like this gold skirt. There are also shades of maroon and olive in the print that I could play with, as I did with my burgundy shoes!

Blazer: J. Crew (old, this one is pretty) // Top: Banana Republic (old) // Skirt: J. Crew (on sale!) // Heels: Zara (similar here) // Necklaces: J. Crew (old) and Stella & Dot // Ring: J. Crew (old)

You’ll see this mustard pencil skirt again soon! I had it with me over my holiday vacation and wore it a couple of times. It’s very versatile, believe it or not! 🙂
