Wardrobe Remix

I did some serious wardrobe remixing! I made my dress into a top, and I’ve worn everything in today’s post in a prior post (except the ring): Dress, skirt, shoes, necklace and earrings, clutch.

Return of the Pink Heels

Do you remember these fab pink heels I introduced in my first post? Now I’m showing you a second way to wear them! I opted for a silk blouse, cuffed jeans (so I don’t steal focus), and pops of pink and gold accessories.

I’ll bring these back for a third round in the near future, and I’ve promised to bring back the tartan blazer from this post too, so check back ๐Ÿ™‚

Blouse: J. Crew (other colors–on sale!) // Jeans: Paige Denim via Marshall’s. Similar here // Shoes: J. Crew (other colors). Similar here // Belt: J. Crew (old). Similar here and here // Necklace: Baublebar // Bracelets: 1, 2, 3, 4 (on sale!), 5 J. Crew (old). Not that similar but still cute!

Pink + Leopard

When I first pulled out this pink skirt to wear, I automatically reached for a navy blouse. Then I made myself put it back since pink and navy is such a go-to combination for me. The leopard print was probably a bit loud for work, but I went for it anyway ๐Ÿ˜‰ย  I was debating between these booties and nude Cole Haan pumps and opted for the booties because they seemed more fall-appropriate. After seeing the photos, though, I wish I’d chosen the pumps. Nude shoes elongate your leg line and these dark brown booties visually cut off my legs at the ankle. In the future, I’ll either wear the nude, or put on dark tights to keep the line long. Lesson learned: when I’m unsure about an outfit, take some tester photos!

Top: J. Crew (old). Very similar here // Skirt: J. Crew. Other colors here (on sale!). Similar here and here // Shoes: Coach via Nordstrom Rack (old). Similar here and here (such a steal!) // Necklace: J. Crew (old) // Bracelets 1, 2 Stella & Dot (old), 3 // Watch: Michael Korsย // Earrings: Stella & Dot

Sale Sensation

J. Crew sale time! As if I wasn’t already blown away by J. Crew’s recent holiday releases (more on that later), this week they’re doing a 30% off sale promotion (code “MUSTHAVE” online and in store through 11/18). That’s always trouble. Santa, if you’re reading, here are some of my sale picks! I could mix and match these pieces for some stellar outfits, don’t you think?

What are you favorites?

Peplum and Chains

Have you tried on a top or dress with a peplum? I wasn’t sold on them until I found this fun pink one at Forever 21. It made me feel instantly fun.ย Do you have any clothing with that immediate effect? I think the key for me is layering them with fitted skirts that accentuate my waist. If I put this top on with jeans it makes my torso look super short, which isn’t flattering. Not all peplums are created equal!

In addition to mixing colors and prints, I love playing with different styles in the same outfit. The pencil skirt is timeless, the top is flirty and feminine, and the jewelry is edgy. Sometimes I find the things that don’t seem to go together actually go together the best!

Happy Thursday!

Hello, Pink Shoes!

Welcome to Christine In Color!

I’m Christine, and I love colorful, affordable fashion. I previously worked in the retail industry and one comment I frequently heard from customers was that they didn’t know how to wear color. I love mixing colors and patterns, and I am here to show you how to do it too!

Here are some features you can expect from my blog:

  1. How to wear an item 3 ways–I’ll show you how to take seemingly tricky wardrobe pieces and make 3 unique outfits with them
  2. Great finds at great prices–Spotlights on affordable, fun items I have come across
  3. Sale alerts
  4. My 2 Cents–My advice and tips on everything from what to buy to build a new wardrobe, how to identify your style, and how I shop on a budget

I’m sure I will expand the features of Christine In Color as time goes on and I would love your feedback on what you like or would want to read.

In my first post, I’m wearing my favorite colors: navy and hot pink. Navy is clean and classic, but pink is fun and feminine. The combination is perfection! I love it so much, I used it as my wedding colors ๐Ÿ™‚

I’m kicking off my “how to wear an item 3 ways” feature with my wonderful, pink heels. I fell in love with these as soon as I saw them. When I showed a friend, her response was, “yeah, those are beautiful… but what are you going to wear them with?” Hot pink heels are admittedly not every day shoes. And while it’s okay to have certain items that you don’t wear very often (i.e. wedding/party dresses or accessories), in general, you shouldn’t have something that you don’t know what to wear it with, or that you only have one outfit to wear it with.

To combat this problem, when I buy something that I’m not sure how I’m going to style, I find 3 outfits I already own to wear the item with. If I can’t, I don’t get to keep the item. Look for outfit number 2 with these beauties in a few weeks!
